Readers Guide to the Epilogues
The Homestuck Epilogues covers two stories that happened after Homestuck's ending, which left everything in a state known as "post-canon". These were originally released as a hardcover book with two sides, much like a record with an A / B side.
So, unlike traditional literature, the epilogues (despite being two stories) are contained in a single book with two front covers. Both volumes end in the middle, so it's up to you to decide. Which of the two stories will you read first? Meat or Candy?
Choices, choices...
Does it matter? At the end of the day, you should be reading both of them! The two stories intertwine and are both equally important, so it's up to you to pick which story to start with!
- Meat
- You decide to eat meat for lunch.
- Darker, grittier, and maybe a little explicit at times.
- Candy
- John decides to eat candy for lunch.
- Love, war, and a lot of growing up.
It doesn't really matter. You're going to have to read both of them. You could read one, stop halfway through and then read the other one.
We'd recommend starting with the one that seems less to your liking so that you can look forward to the other one, but, you could also just pick whichever food you ate more of today. It's really up to you! Just do whatever feels right! Flip a coin!
No matter what order you read in, we hope you enjoy! You can start reading the epilogues right here!
Are they good or bad?
We tend to refrain from addressing the fandom zeitgeist head-on, but in the case of epilogues, it might be necessary to give a little context.
While they're a bit controversial, our recommendation is to tune out both praise and criticism while reading so that you can form your own opinion. Go into it with an open mind! It's important to form your own opinion on these things! This doesn't mean people's grievances are invalid, but rather that it's important for those grievances to not impede on your ability to critically look at things.
If you end up liking it, that's great! If you don't, that's a shame but either way: we hope you can find something of value in these stories! Happy reading!
